The most common method for handling the interfacial compatibility of wood-plastic composites in industrial production is chemical methods.  Because coupling agents can form covalent or complex bonds between wood and plastic, and act as “molecular bridges”, they are often used to improve the compatibility between wood fibers and resins.

The coupling of the coupling agent with the oxygen in the hydroxyl groups of the wood reduces the number of hydroxyl groups on the wood surface, thereby increasing the hydrophobicity of the wood and reducing its surface tension. In addition, the coupling agent and the plastic matrix have a certain physical effect. When the wood and the plastic matrix are simultaneously used, the interface bonding strength of the composite material is stronger and the compatibility is better.
