1. Plasticizer
This is the most common additive in plastics.Plastics, if understood literally, are plastic materials, and plasticizers can also be understood as increasing the plasticity of plastics.
Most of the plasticizers used in PVC are phthalates, including DEHP. It should be noted that the plasticizer is easy to precipitate, which affects the product quality. 2. Flexibilizer
Toughening agent is easy to be confused with plasticizer. Some plasticizers can be used as toughening agent, because the principle of both is to change the crystallinity of polymer. But when it comes to product parameters, they are actually different. We use hair as an analogy. Plasticizer is equivalent to water, which is mainly responsible for the processing process, while toughener is equivalent to conditioner, which is mainly responsible for the later application process.
Some plastics are very brittle. They are like glass when they are used. They break when they fall to the ground. Obviously, they are not very comfortable to use. The significance of toughening agent is to solve this problem. For PVC plastics, plasticizers are also toughening agents, but there are various toughening agents for other plastics. Some directly use polymers such as rubber as toughening agents.
3. Antioxygen
BHT is the most common phenolic antioxidant, which is widely used in the plastic industry and is almost necessary in the material processing industry. Plastics are organic polymers, molecules are actually quite fragile, and it is very dangerous to encounter oxygen at high temperature. We all know that oxygen is the main culprit for some things that should not happen. It has nothing to do with polymer itself. However, oxygen is so powerful that the earth can’t do without it, so we have to add more antioxidants to polymer.
This is basically the role of antioxidants. Of course, the oxidant in reality is not just oxygen.
4. Fire retardant
Flame retardants are not widely used in the plastics industry, but they are very important. If our plastics processing industry can produce flame retardant plastics according to the standards, many fire hazards will be reduced.
So the role of flame retardant is to prevent the combustion rate, many of which are phosphorus and chlorine containing substances, which can quickly generate free radicals, thus preventing the spread of fire.
5. Colorant
Colorants, as the name suggests, are used to color plastics. But don’t simply look at the problem of coloring. Performance and beauty are the two most important directions in plastic processing. Performance determines the use, but beauty determines the profit. Therefore, for specific enterprises, the latter sometimes attracts more attention.
6. Enhancer
The function of reinforcer is to increase the strength of plastics.
Strength is different from hardness, which needs to be distinguished. Most plastics do not require hardness in the process of use, but in addition to the tear position of food bags, the general requirements of plastics for strength are very high.
Most of the time, reinforcers also reduce the cost of plastics, because commonly used reinforcers, such as calcium carbonate, talc, graphite or carbon black, and silicon dioxide, are cheaper. Of course, these substances can be enhanced by their direct interaction with polymers. They cannot be added indefinitely. If they are added more, their strength will also decrease.
Enhancers are generally non-toxic and harmless.
7. Crosslinker
Crosslinking agent can also be called reinforcing agent, because it has a similar effect on the final molding material. But different from common fillers, chemical reaction takes place between crosslinking agent and polymer. Through chemical reactions such as cross-linking, the setting of plastics becomes more stable.
8. Light stabilizer
UV light, a kind of high-energy electromagnetic wave, can break the chain of many polymers and cause chain degradation reaction. The purpose of light stabilizer is to deal with this problem.
9. Heat stabilizer

10. Foaming agent

11. Lubricant
It is mainly used in the process of processing, similar to plasticizers – plasticizers reduce the friction between molecules, while lubricants can not only reduce the friction between molecules, but also reduce the friction between molecules and containers.
12. Antistatic agent
Antistatic agent and flame retardant can be compared, its dosage is also very small, but it is very important in special occasions, especially in electronic components, the role is to reduce the accumulation of static electricity on the plastic surface.
